you can use to prepare your child for the transition to 5th grade.

Mastery of the following area(s) is expected for incoming students into 5th grade
          
Math

Basic addition and subtraction facts. Basic multiplication and division facts. Simple fractions and how to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators.  Reduce to simplest terms.

Grow a sea monkey.
Solar system- Sit outside and count the stars, find a Summer constellation.
 Matter-Check out a science experiment book and create your own experiment.
 Weather and Climate-Keep a journal of the weather and track the weather in another state online.  Water-Keep track of the amount of water your family uses in a one week period.

Field trips-Art Museums, California Science Center, Griffith Park Observatory


  Reading/Writing

Participate in Summer reading groups. Write in a journal during the summer about special trips, creative stories or write letters. Read historical fiction books about explorers and people who came to America.
